The following instructions and the directory of rural areas will help you determine whether your organization is located in a rural area.

To find your state and county:
  1. Select your state in the drop-down menu below.
  2. Click on the Search Button.
  3. A list of counties will display at the bottom of this page.
  4. Scroll through the counties listed for your state; the counties are listed in alphabetical order.
  5. If your county is listed, and there is an N/A in the exception field, your organization is located in a rural area.
  6. If your county is listed, and there are notes in the exception field, see instructions on determining your Census Track Number or BNA.
To determine your county's Census Tract Number or BNA:

To determine your County's Census Tract Number or BNA, you can call your regional census bureau office or visit the FFIEC Website.

  1. You must select "Year 2008" on the FFIEC Website
  2. Type in your organization's street address and click the Search button
  3. Write down the Tract/BNA number displayed
  4. Return to the RHCD Website
  5. Please read the exceptions column closely to determine whether your organization is considered rural or not. If you have any questions, please contact the Customer Service Support Center at 1-888-641-8722.
