Step 7: Begin Providing Services
Service providers must keep a number of things in mind as they begin preparing to provide services to applicants.
In general, service providers cannot provide services before the start of the funding year, which begins on July 1 and ends the following June 30. Providers of Internal Connections may provide services through the September 30 following the close of the funding year, and this deadline may be extended under some circumstances.
After the applicant files the Receipt of Service Confirmation Form (Form 486) to indicate that the provision of services has begun, the service provider will receive a copy of the Form 486 Notification Letter. This letter contains the Service Start Date, which is the earliest date that USAC will provide discounts for services. Because USAC may adjust this date (an Adjusted Service Start Date is marked with an asterisk in this letter), service providers should review this and other information contained in this letter very carefully.
The Form 486 Notification Letter also contains detailed information about each funding request. As with the Funding Commitment Decision Letter, service providers may receive information from multiple applicants in the same Form 486 Notification Letter. The service provider letter also contains more information about each individual Funding Request Number than the applicant letter.
Service providers can choose to receive electronic notifications of the information in several different USAC letters including Form 486 Notification Letters.
